Context
BAFA is the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control. Consultancies running subsidised advisory programmes have to track eligibility, documentation and funding state per client, and the paperwork rules are strict.
My role
Sole developer, design through deployment. Designed and built a BAFA compliance platform end to end — consultant management, project tracking, a questionnaire engine and a credit system.
The hard part
The report. Every questionnaire answer, every AI-drafted section and the consultant's own material had to come out as one formal document that goes to BAFA, and the AI was the easy half. I decided with the client which questionnaire fields feed the prompt and wrote the prompt itself, so the generated project answers stay tied to what was actually entered. Assembling the document was the part that fought back. It runs on docxtemplater with a headless LibreOffice step for conversion, and getting images to land correctly inside the generated report took longer than anything else on the project.
Outcome
Live since 2023 with 52 active users. Still maintained, with small changes as the consultancy's process shifts.
